7 Best First Dance Songs with a Jazz Band

Alex Levin Music’s bands are hopeless romantics, and we know how important it is to choose a first dance song. In many ways, it can be the married couple’s first foray into the world as a wedded pair. Here are some of the songs our couples chose for their first dance songs, and why we loved playing them.

“Young at Heart”

This classic song begins with the famous lines, “Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you, if you’re young at heart.” The lilting melody and elegant arrangement by Street of Dreams Jazz Band make for a world-class choice.

2. “I Can’t Help Falling in Love”

Elvis made it famous the first time, but with close to 16,000 views on Youtube, The Lovesome’s version of this classic love song is everything you could hope for in a first dance choice. Our version starts off with guitar and vocal as a duo, and then the band joins in for the second half of the tune. Enjoy!

3. “It Had to Be You”

Ukulele strumming and swinging bass and drums underpin this gorgeous version of the old standard by Love, Charley. It’s hard to forget Harry Connick’s version from “When Harry Met Sally,” and many fans of the movie have chosen “It Had to Be You” as a perfect New York City Wedding choice.

4. ‘Til There Was You

There is nothing like a simple melody: the charm and romance of a great old song can’t be beat, especially when it comes to choosing a first dance song. The Smoke Rings, here as a trio of vocals, bass, and piano, play this song as only they can: balancing sophistication with fun and naivete all at once.

5. “Our Love Is Here to Stay”

The Smoke Rings recorded this great song on their debut album, and now look–someone’s gone and posted it on YouTube! The upbeat charmer can make a superb first dance song that sets an optimistic, loving tone–with a Gershwin flair!

6. “A New World”

One couple asked The Lovesome to cover this gorgeous song by Bjork, which she composed for the movie “Dancer in the Dark.” Not a typical first dance choice by any means, this song is perfect for the retro hipster couple looking to make a statement with their first dance choice.

7. “Stars Fell on Alabama”

This remarkable song is sure to leave your family and friends longing to join you on the dance floor. It’s a real statement in the hands of Love, Charley. A timeless choice for your wedding, for sure.
