Inspired by neo-soul greats like D’Angelo and Erykah Badu, Fake Tapes is all about the pleasure principle. Lead singer Kyla’s voice zig-zags assuredly above mischievous harmonic twists and sharp, understated grooves as she spins oblique stories of heartbreak and hope in New York City.
Their debut, self-titled EP was released in December 2018 and is available on all major listening platforms. A&R Factory said Kyla “doesn’t hold much restraint when it comes to saying what’s on her mind… and that’s just one of the reasons why her approach is so refreshing.” They have performed at Rockwood Music Hall, Pianos, The Standard Hotel, Groove, and have a weekly residency at fourfivesix in Brooklyn.
